Sailing Stone, 2023
Steel, Found Couch Materials
Objects found within couch in it’s deconstruction:
3 chewed pencils, a life insurance pen, an M&Ms packet (Exp. Feb '81), a syringe cap, and a film canister.
“Sailing Stone” explores the material history of a couch found on Wickenden Street in Providence, RI by amplifying marks left by accumulated touch and interaction (such as the oxidation of couch springs onto fabric). The title references the sailing stones of Death Valley, rocks slowly moved across the desert floor by the freeze and thaw of ice along their surface.
